» Orientation: We never see Watanuki in a romantic situation, ever, even though the manga seems to span over several years. However, from the beginning Watanuki has an obvious infatuation for one girl in the series (and only this one girl, no one else does he even glance at), named Himawari. He finds her utterly adorable, kind, cute, cute, and omgsocute. Basically, in his eyes Himawari can do no wrong, despite a very intuitive (and magical) authority in his life constantly telling him she's really not good news for him.

Over the series, as Himawari becomes one of his closest friends and someone who means a lot to his existence in general, he is still enthusiastic about her presence, but he seems to value her a lot more than just "she's so cute" and calms down a little around her. I think he still likes her romantically, but she's definitely treated much more like a best friend than a crush (which, I think, is just a side-effect of their deepened relationship). Although, even when she was basically just a pretty girl to him and Watanuki had plenty of time to woo Himawari before the plot got thick, he really … doesn't. He asks her to walk home with him and go places with him, but it's no more than that.

With Watanuki, ALL of his close relationships with people (males and females alike – of all ages, some of whom are ghosts/spirits….) are intimate, in just about every way but sexually. He really does put his all into dealing with people, especially those he cares about, so the level of devotion he has for his friends is that you might see in a lover. Even that being so, I think Watanuki is really not a sexually charged person at all.

Normally, I think Watanuki would think of sex after he had an established relationship with someone and it seemed comfortable and natural to take that next step. His affection for people, even his crush, is completely innocent in that merely spending time with Himawari, making her smile, hearing she likes his cooking, etc., is more than enough to get him soaring. We never see him thinking about kissing her or being intimate with her, and he mostly focuses on what food he can make her for lunch next time they meet at school.

In a situation such as in Atia, I feel that the last person he would want to have sex with would be Himawari, because it's not sex for love or anything of the emotional sort, it's sex to ensure they both don't die. I think he would feel extremely guilty about asking that of Himawari and view it like he's shaming and using her. (However, if they were the only ones each other knew in Atia, I think he would have sex with her to spare her and himself sleeping with a stranger). He would want to have sex with someone he knew and trusted, so I believe he would choose his best male friend, Doumeki, if Doumeki were around (similarly, I believe Watanuki would rather Himawari have sex with Doumeki as well). Watanuki would want to have sex with him not because he's attracted to men or even attracted to Doumeki, but because Doumeki is basically his protector, someone Watanuki respects (secretly, but he's getting more open about that) and, above all, trusts. Trusts both to take care of him, and give it to him straight. Doumeki is blunt and doesn't care about pissing Watanuki off, so he knows he wouldn't be able to overstep boundaries with him, unlike how Himawari is so nice and she might do things to make it easier on him or something, which Watanuki would want to avoid at all costs. It would also be an extremely, extremely embarrassing situation for him, and he wouldn't want to be embarrassed like that in front of Himawari, nor would he want to see her be so embarrassed.

So I pretty much conclude that he wouldn't want to have sex with anyone (currently), but if he did HAVE to have sex anytime soon, he would choose someone based on their character, not their gender. I don't think he's strictly straight or gay, but more so bases his affection on who a person is, and he just happened to crush on someone who is a girl rather than because she is a girl. That being said, I think he would, in general, be more attracted to (and want to have sex with) women because he probably relates to their personalities more, and he wouldn't enjoy being "the woman" in a relationship with a male, which he inevitably would be (unless the guy was very feminine).

» Personality: At first glance, Kimihiro Watanuki is bound to appear relatively normal, but watching him further may prove he is actually quite strange. He has a bad habit of talking aloud to himself, sometimes very loudly, and in many cases doesn’t have much control over his emotions. If he finds something absurd, he will likely say it in an extremely blatant manner. One of the biggest reasons for such behavior is that Watanuki has a very low threshold for stress and not enough practice relaxing. Another reason is because he is easily frightened and put off, especially by paranormal (or in the absence of paranormal, out of the ordinary) happenings. Being loud is also defensive and protects his sensitivity, and Watanuki is a very sensitive individual.

Any one thing can set him off, and usually from there it only gets worse. Even so, he is usually able to reign himself in to a degree around people he doesn't know (unless they are SO out there he doesn't know what to think), and with only a few exceptions, he is extremely formal and polite with people; especially those he doesn't know or is in a working relationship with. There are also a few people he doesn't tend to have outbursts with, and those are people he finds trustworthy and calming (calming being the key word).

Watanuki is a very caring person who is willing to risk life and limb for others; more so when he was younger and alone, before he learned the value of friendship, and most importantly, the value of himself. Though he no longer will throw himself away carelessly to save someone else, he still makes sacrifices without much thought or care, much preferring to take the blame, or punishment, if it will spare someone he cares for. He feels a big sense of responsibility for his friends, so if one of them is in trouble, or has a problem, he often is affected greatly by it.

Because of how he grew (alone, without parents), Watanuki learned how to sew, knit, cook, clean, and whatever other domestic task one can think of, like a pro. He enjoys such things and goes out of his way to partake in them, even if it isn’t absolutely necessary (especially cooking). To some, those may seem like strange hobbies for a boy, but Watanuki is also adept at athletics, able to play sports well, and is in good physical shape.

He is also bright (but sometimes lacks common sense) and responsible, able to fit many things into his day and arrive on time, ready for whatever is in store. Even though he may complain (and he does complain a lot), Watanuki is to be trusted with any task as long it is humanly possible for him to complete it. The fact that he allows himself to be sent into dangerous situations repetitively proves it.

» Appearance: Even though I am aging Watanuki up, it's only by a year. He'd probably look a little more mature around the face, but he basically looks the same as usual. He's a tall boy, though not overwhelmingly so, and very skinny and wiry (which is the style of the manga artists in general, but so be it).

His hair is short and black, though has a bit of a wave to it and curls upward in a few places despite it being mostly straight and lying flat on his head. Watanuki was born with two blue eyes, but unfortunately lost one of them, and as a gift from a friend, currently has one blue eye and one golden eye (his right eye). He also wears oval shaped glasses at all times, even though his golden right eye is good enough for him to see out of without them. His original blue eye has very poor eyesight.

All in all he looks like a normal boy would. He is usually seen in his school uniform, oftentimes with an apron over top (when cooking and cleaning, he will also usually wear a matching bandana). Depending on what task he's doing, his apron might be different, considering he received aprons for Christmas from more than one person, but lately he usually wears an apron with an angry cat on the front (given to him by his crush).
